Sony has begun communicating with developers about its plans for Timed Trials for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.

According to sources who spoke to the Game Developer site, developers working on games that cost $34 or more to sell are now required to set up a Timed Trials for their games. Depending on the source, these trials should last at least two hours.

Games that cost less to sell than advertised amounts are not required to have a trial version, according to the new policy.

This step comes in the wake of Sony’s announcement of the launch of new subscription packages for the PlayStation Plus service, which includes 3 packages. However, Timed Trials will only be available with a Premium subscription.

According to the source, Sony has already started informing several developers of this move through its third-party intercom system.

This step may be good and very suitable for users and players, but for developers, it may be a bit annoying, especially since building a time-limited trial version of their games will require more effort and money.

Also, according to the source, developers will have up to three months after launching their games on the PlayStation Store in order to release the Timed Trials of their game. This trial must also be available to PlayStation Plus Premium users for at least 12 months.

The door will also be open for developers to release custom trials (demo) for their games instead of the Timed Trials. But it will only be approved on a case-by-case basis. While developers are still free to release beta versions during the weekend period that all PlayStation owners can access.

So far, Sony has not responded to this new information, but it promised to reveal more details in the coming period, leading to the start of the launch of the new PlayStation Plus service in early July, more details about the launch dates.
